Winners of the Abel Prize 2008 announced
 


The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has jointly awarded the 2008 Abel Prize to John Griggs Thompson, Graduate Research Professor, University of Florida and Jacques Tits, Professor Emeritus, Collège de France "for their profound achievements in algebra and in particular for shaping modern group theory".
